BART Police Shoot And Kill Man At Civic Center Station Sunday Night

One suspect is dead after an officer-involved shooting tonight, which has shut down the Civic Center BART station, a BART spokesman said. An officer shot the suspect at about 9:45 p.m. after BART police responded to reports of a “wobbly drunk” near the train platform, spokesman Linton Johnson said. The suspect, who was allegedly carrying a knife, was pronounced dead at the scene around 10:45 p.m., Johnson said. The San Francisco Police Department is performing a criminal investigation, while BART police handle the administrative side, including whether BART policies and procedures were followed, he said. The Civic Center station will be closed to both BART and San Francisco Municipal Railway light-rail vehicle passengers Sunday night, and it is not certain when it will reopen, Johnson said. “No trains are stopping at Civic Center. They are running right through it,” he said. BART and Muni passengers may board at the Powell Street station, and Muni passengers can also use the Van Ness station. Woman Calls 911 For Diabetic Fiance, Police Shoot And Kill Man Upon Arrival

A Georgia man was shot and killed last Friday, when police, not paramedics, showed up to a medical emergency call made by the man’s fiance. Alcia Herron called 911 for an ambulance shortly after her fiance, 43-year-old Jack Lamar Roberson, took diabetes medication that worried her. According to Herron, police soon arrived on scene and opened fire on Roberson in front of the entire family, including Roberson’s 8-year-old daughter. “They just came in and shot him. He didn’t say nothing, the police didn’t say nothing, anything, it was like a silent movie. You couldn’t hear anything, all you could hear were the gun shots go off and I seen them going into his body and he just fell down,” Alcia Herron told First Coast News. According to the Waycross Police Department, officers received an attempted suicide call involving a combative man. Police Chief Tony Tanner alleges Roberson jumped towards his officers with two weapons after ignoring commands to drop them. Roberson’s mother and fiance dispute the officers’ claims. “He didn’t have nothing in his hands at any time or period at all before they came, any time while they were here, anything,” said Heron. Police have refused to comment on what weapons the man allegedly had but according to Roberson’s mother, police claim Roberson was holding two knives. “If you’re any type of man you’ll come to me and you’ll tell me why you stood up there and told a lie. Two knives, we don’t own two decent knives,” Roberson’s mother said. “It’s pain, it’s a mother’s pain, her first born to be shot down in her face. (CNN) -- More than 60 officers will be disciplined over a police chase last year that left two people dead in a hail of 137 bullets, Cleveland police said Tuesday. Cleveland Police Chief Michael McGrath said 64 officers were found guilty of "administrative charges ranging from excessive speed to insubordination," in connection with their role in the 2012 police chase. The announcement after the discipline hearings doesn't involve a pending review of possible criminal charges in the deadly incident, CNN affiliate WOIO reported. Two months ago, McGrath had said 74 of 277 officers on duty the night of the chase could face disciplinary action. The incident began on November 29 when officers saw a car speeding and heard what they thought was a gunshot, according to the affiliate. Police pursued the vehicle, and the driver, Timothy Russell, refused to stop, authorities told the station. Though officers reported seeing a gun in the car, no weapon was ever found, the affiliate reported. The 23-minute chase took officers to East Cleveland, where 13 of them fired 137 shots, killing Russell, 43, and his passenger, Malissa Williams, 30, CNN affiliate WJW reported. "It was really a tragic pursuit," McGrath said in August. "When those officers started their tour of duty that evening, they started it with good intentions." Cops are threat to society! (CNN) -- A Los Angeles police officer has been charged with assaulting a woman under arrest, Alesia Thomas, who lost consciousness in a patrol car and was declared dead soon thereafter, prosecutors announced Thursday. Mary O'Callaghan, 48, was charged a day earlier in a felony assault case, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. The prosecutor's office said it will request $35,000 bail for the officer who, if convicted, could spend three years in state prison. Tyler Izen, president of the Los Angeles police union,in a statement said "the alleged actions of the officer are incongruous with her reputation as an officer who was known to be diligent, courteous and ethical." O'Callaghan's lawyer Robert Rico describes his client, an 18-year veteran of the department, as "devastated." (What bullshit! President of LA police union defends cop!!!) "As an officer, a Marine and a mother, she's used to fighting and defending others," Rico said. "And she will fight and defend herself in a court of law to prove her innocence." The charge stems from an incident July 22, 2012, when police investigating a possible child abandonment went to Thomas' home. This was after Thomas had dropped off her two children at a police station because she felt her drug abuse had made her an unfit parent, according to Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas. At the mother's home, police talked with Thomas and arrested her. It was then that O'Callaghan arrived on the scene, helping her fellow officers put Thomas -- then wearing handcuffs and leg restraints -- in a patrol car. Video captured what happened next, the prosecutor's office said, including "O'Callaghan kicking Thomas in the stomach and groin area and pushing her in the throat." Thomas lost consciousness in the patrol car, then was transported by paramedics to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Prosecutors said they didn't file involuntary manslaughter charges against O'Callaghan because it couldn't be proven that she directly caused Thomas' death. Her official cause of death was "undetermined," according to a coroner's report. Thomas's relatives, though, believe O'Callaghan is responsible, family spokesman Najee Ali said Thursday. The family is grateful for the charge filed this week, added Ali. But they're not satisfied yet, pushing for the public release of the video showing Thomas' final moments. "We want to have the whole truth of what happened to Alesia Thomas," Ali said. "... This is not over with."
